The idea for 'Making Miami' was to highlight the creative community that shaped the city during one of its more important / defining periods (1996—2012). Because there were so many facets related to Making Miami (ie.,exhibition, catalog, collateral and website) the identity needed to be highly adaptable. In response to this, we created a custom stencil typeface as a way of hinting at this idea of being under construction. The mark was then repeated in a recurring pattern that could exist on wayfinding, digital and print.
